The Company

Forbidden Games is a new board game publishing company founded by Glenn Drover, the founder of Eagle Games, and designer of numerous board games including the tabletop versions of Railroad Tycoon, Age of Mythology, and Age of Empires III.

Mission

Glenn's goal when he worked at PopCap was simple: to treat so-called “casual” games not as disposable junk, but as gems to polish with all the care and craft of a AAA title.

Our aim at Forbidden Games is similar. We feel that board games can be both accessible and deep; that a fast, fun gateway game can be as elegantly designed as a multi-hour miniatures-fest; that truly great games can appeal to casual and hardcore players alike.

To that end, we are working only with the absolute best artists and designers, and accepting nothing less than the highest quality components. We believe a great board game is something you should treasure and play for years to come.

Our Games

Our first three offerings are all currently available in our online store.

    Railroad Rivals

    Image

Railroad Rivals is a fast-play tile drafting and laying game, where you build a Railroad Empire that stretches across America…and across your table.

While playing Railroad Rivals, you connect cities via one of the twelve great railroads that stretched across America, while simultaneously building your stock portfolio. You’ll then use those railroads to make deliveries to drive up the price of your stocks.

At the end of the game, the player that has run the most profitable railroad while also owning the most valuable stocks will become the greatest of all of the Railroad Rivals!

    Raccoon Tycoon

    Image

Astoria is a land bustling with productivity and growth! New towns, factories, and railroads are springing up across the land. A few savvy business tycoons (you and your opponents) are determined to make your fortunes on the crest of this wave.

These Tycoons start out as the producers of the key commodities: wheat to feed the growing towns and factories, wood and iron to build them, coal to fuel the trains and factories, and manufactured goods and luxuries to fill the insatiable demand of the animals of Astoria.

Cornering the market for the most valuable commodities can create small fortunes that can be invested in the new businesses, turning them into huge fortunes. The sky is the limit during this Gilded Age!

    Extraordinary Voyages: Pirates

    Image

While playing Extraordinary Voyages: Pirates, you will become a pirate captain sailing three ships through the Caribbean in search of rich merchants to plunder and friendly ports in which to trade your booty for riches.

You will have one ship on each of the three ‘tracks’: pathways through the Caribbean Sea. On each turn, you will play three cards from your hand to move your ships. Your cards will have a basic movement number, and often a secondary action. You may use one or the other to move your ships down the track or gain special advantages.

The first pirate captain to reach the Treasure Galleon at the end of any track, ends the game. Each pirate ship scores points based on what place they finished on each track, as well as for the treasures earned by selling plunder.

The richest captain will go down in history as the Pirate King!
